Online Source Book -- Revision 2000-2001-2002

Supporting Leaders in Mathematics Education:
A Source Book of Essential Information
-- Provided Entirely Online -- Under Revision 2000-2001-2002-2003 --
About nine years ago, the NCSM published a sourcebook for leaders. It was called "Supporting Leaders in Mathematics Education." About four years ago the NCSM received a generous grant from Johnson and Johnson so that we could update this valuable resource and actually create an online version of the document. Like the initial publication, the online sourcebook has five sections.

GENERAL INFORMATION

From L. Jerry Cummins, NCSM President (1999-2001):

Dear NCSM Member,

NCSM is an organization dedicated to supporting leaders in the mathematics reform movement at all levels.  In 1994, many NCSM members volunteered their time and talents to produce our first source book, Supporting Leaders in Mathematics Education -- A Sourcebook of Essential Information.  It contained practical information, strategies, and ideas of value to our NCSM members and others in leadership roles.  L. Carey Bolster, NCSM President at that time, said "We envision this source book to be a living document, one that will be rejuvenated by updates supplied by you and the Task Force."  This Sourcebook became available to our members through a grant by Johnson and Johnson that partially funded its production.

The time has come for us to provide you with a truly  "living" document of the updated revised Sourcebook in electronic form.  Johnson and Johnson, a loyally supporter of NCSM over the years, has provided a grant this year so that we may produce an updated version of this document.  We elected to make it available electronically rather than in hard copy form because the information is constantly in a state of change.  Updating can be done instantaneously by changing data in the document on our Web page, www.ncsmonline.org.  We will still need your help to contact us regarding changes that need to be made so all of the information is current.

I wish to thank Johnson and Johnson for their grant to partially fund this project that will become our "bible" of references to enhance our leadership effectiveness.  It is through active concerned partnerships, such as those we enjoy with Johnson and Johnson, that NCSM will have a significant impact on leading mathematics reform in the 21st Century.

Finally, please accept my heart-felt thanks for sacrifices you make on a daily basis to provide a quality mathematics program that benefits all of our children.

Kindest Regards,

Jerry Cummins
President
National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics

You will find references to a number of different journals and articles here. This list of articles is by no means exhaustive and we invite you to add your references to this site. We want this to be a place where we can share information about articles we've read.

If you wish to contribute a reference to an article about any of these issues, please email florence.glanfield@usask.ca with all of the information regarding the reference.
