Glenn Gilbert National Leadership Award

The National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics is an organization whose membership is made up of leaders in the field of mathematics education. One of those members who gave especially of his time and energy was Glenn Gilbert. Glenn served mathematics education as a teacher and supervisor for many years. He served as Treasurer and Board Member of NCSM for five consecutive years.

The Glenn Gilbert National Leadership Award was established to provide NCSM with a vehicle for annually recognizing a person who has made the same kind of unique and dedicated contribution to mathematics education. See past recipients of this most prestigious award.

Nomination Procedures

Download the 2008 Glenn Gilbert nomination form as a PDF file or as a Microsoft Word document . Nominations must be submitted in writing (electronic or paper) in either narrative form (maximum of two, double-spaced, typewritten pages) or by filling in the nomination form. In either case, be sure to use the questions on the nomination form and the criteria to help you prepare and write your case. The nomination should directly address the criteria. The name, address, telephone number, and present position of both the nominee and nominator must also be included. Deadline for Submission for the 2008 Award is January 15, 2008

Criteria

  • Any member of NCSM is free to submit a nomination. Only a NCSM member may submit a nomination.
  • The nominee should be eligible for NCSM membership, but actual membership is not a requirement.
  • The nominee has a record of significant and describable contributions to mathematics education, with emphasis on contributions occurring in recent years.
  • The nominee demonstrates a concern for her/his fellow mathematics educators.
  • The nominee uses self-evaluation for growth and improved performance.
  • The nominee demonstrates a clear knowledge of mathematics education, especially current issues and problems.
  • The nominee has made a contribution to mathematics education by furthering one or more of the stated purposes of NCSM: the interchange of ideas, cooperation with other professional organizations, leadership in attacking current problems in mathematics curriculum and supervision.
